SOFTBOARD provides outstanding summer heat ptotection

SOFTBOARD is not only an excellent insulant against the cold, but it also offers the perfect heat protection in summer. This distinguishes SOFTBOARD from other conventional insulation materials.

High heat storage capacity
For better protection of premises, especially roofs, against summer heat, the insulation material should have thermal storage capacity enough to ensure warmth flow from the exterior side to the interior one is adequately dampened. Wood has a thermal storage capacity of 2.1 KJ/kg, giving it the highest capacity of any building material.
SOFTBOARD absorb and retain thermal energy (phase displacement) before allowing it to reach the building’s interior in a reduced magnitude (decrement factor). During the night, the temperature sinks outdoors and the thermal energy is released from the exterior of the building, keeping the fluctuation of temperature at a minimum inside the building.

Phase displacement
Phase displacement describes the span of time (hours) needed by a temperature wave to travel from the exterior side of a construction part to its interior side. The greater the phase displacement, the longer the delay in heating the inside of the building. For comparison: 18 cm of mineral fiber amounts to a phase displacement of 6 hours, whereas SOFTBOARD 20 mm achieves a phase displacement of 10 hours.

Example:
Phase displacement for SOFTBOARD 20 mm is 10 hours. With a temperature fluctuation of 21°C, as shown in the diagram, the temperature fluctuation of the air in the interior of the building is 3°C. (Decrement factor = 7)

The lower the thermal diffusivity, the better the insulation against heat in summer and cold in winter.
